Nissan recalls over 50,000 X-Trail and Qashqai

Date Listed: 18/10/2009

A Chinese joint venture involving Japan's Nissan Motors has recently announced that it will recall nearly 52,000 cars in China due to a defect in the steering system, the country's product-quality watchdog said.

The recall by Dongfeng Motor Co. Ltd. covers approximately 18,140 X-Trail sport utility vehicles and 33,600 Qashqai units, a statement on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said.

It is reported that a problem with the vehicles' steering nut may lead to a complete loss of directional/steering control in extreme cases.

Dongfeng Motor Co Ltd. will install fasteners on the recalled cars; the company was established in 2003 between state-owned Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Nissan Motors.
